A team of three presenters from Insanity Radio 103.2FM have broken a world record by broadcasting continuously for 100 hours.

Georgia Fish, Jack Gordon and Chris Smith, all students at Royal Holloway, University of London, finished broadcasting at midday today (Friday 30 March) after surpassing the previous record of 73 hours, set by Kiss FM, Germany. A record claim of 80 hours was made earlier this month by Tudno FM, Wales, but is yet to be confirmed by Guinness World Records.

Insanity Radio’s Station Manager, Dave Lamb, said: “After a long month of events and publicity to push our FM Launch, it’s brilliant that these guys have managed to beat the world record. Huge congratulations to them!”

The team started their show at 8am on Monday 26 March, and were only allowed five minutes of break time each for every hour aired. They were supported by more than 40 guests, who participated in games and interviews on air. There was also a large amount of support from the community, with free food being offered most mornings.

The record claim is yet to be validated by Guinness World Records, who will make a decision after reviewing video and audio records of the attempt. If confirmed, Insanity Radio will hold the world record for ‘Longest marathon for a radio music show DJ – team’, which was previously held by Chris Moyles and Dave Vitty of BBC Radio 1 who were on air for 52 hours.

Over £500 was donated by listeners in aid of charity. One of the team, Georgia, will be travelling to South Africa in August to help disadvantaged communities by teaching in orphanages, helping to build houses and helping to conserve cheetahs and crocodiles.
